Additional Information: This portrait is one of the earliest in oils in Plymouth’s collection. Although thought to have been painted in the Netherlands region, the man in the portrait is wearing German clothing. Beneath his bejewelled, wide brimmed bonnet is a type of cap or hairnet. His pose and expression show an assured and confident sitter. (, )
