- DescriptionGeneral Description: A mid 18th Century circular freedom box with removable cover, given to Admiral Philip Durell. Engraved on the front with the Plymouth Coat of Arms. The box contains a paper seal and wax. Two holes in the side through which ribbons would have been passed to attach the patent. (, )
Associated Information: Admiral Durell. Philip Durell (1707-1766) was a Royal Navy Officer who became Port Admiral at Plymouth in 1761. Durell was promoted to Captain in 1742 and was successfully involved in the Siege of Louisbourg during the War of the Austrian Succession in 1745.
