General Description: Though undated, the portrait is thought to have been painted circa 1764/5 when Reynolds was aged forty-one. Like many artists before him the theme of self-portraits is one which engaged Reynolds throughout his career. There are numerous oils and drawings from various periods of his life. This theme was explored in an exhibition; The Self Portraits by David Mannings. (, )
