Description
General Description: A view taken during the excavating for Burrator Dam. Showing workmen with shovels, hammers and pickaxes at a rock face, with a wooden trestle bridge in the foreground for removing debris by wheelbarrow. Above the rock face is a larger wooden bridge carrying the leat to Plymouth, with several men standing on it. (, )
Overall Collection Description: Collection of up to 1000 images, the majority from glass plate negatives, including approximately 200 non-topographic/natural history copy image negatives. Taken by Richard Rugg Monk (born, 1845. Died, 1924) a local watchmaker, Plymouth Councillor and keen amateur photographer. He was the first secretary of the Plymouth Photographic Club and much of his photographic collection was donated to the City Museum. (, )
