General Description: A view taken during the construction of the Burrator Dam at the Sheepstor side. Showing a workman with a beard in the foreground standing beside a trench, with walls supported by timber and pit props. In the centre of the image there is a steam crane and a number of workmen with a wooden building to the left with fields in the background. Compare with No.4 (, )
Overall Collection Description: Collection of up to 1000 images, the majority from glass plate negatives, including approximately 200 non-topographic/natural history copy image negatives. Taken by Richard Rugg Monk (born, 1845. Died, 1924) a local watchmaker, Plymouth Councillor and keen amateur photographer. He was the first secretary of the Plymouth Photographic Club and much of his photographic collection was donated to the City Museum. (, )
