Description
General Description: John Hawkesworth was commissioned to edit Captain James Cook's papers and logs following his first Voyage of Discovery. The purpose of the first voyage was to observe and record the transit of Venus across the sun and was funded by the Royal Society. The voyage took Cook via Cape Horn to Tahiti, and then on to New Zealand and south-eastern corner of Australia. He travelled home via Indonesia and the Cape of Good Hope. (Leedham, Susan, 2018-03-14)
