- DescriptionGeneral Description: Gavel presented to the Town Council by John Kelly, Mayor 1873. Black wooden handle with silver mounts terminating in an ivory bust of Sir Francis Drake. Beneath this is a silver band bearing 4 shields - the emblems of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales; Arms of Plymouth City; emblems repeated; Fleur de Lys. Halfway along the handle is a narrow decorative silver band. The gavel itself has ivory ends. The silver mounts are inscribed and with a fleur de lys in shield. Opposite is a second fleur de lys.
