General Description: One of four studies engraved by Ryland from the Ramsay portrait painting. George III was the first monarch of the Hanoverian line to be born and educated in England. Son of Frederick, Prince of Wales, and the grandson of George II, he succeeded his grandfather in 1760 as his father had died in 1751. George III was the longest reigning male monarch and presided over the loss of the American colonies. (, )
