Description
General Description: A view taken during the construction of the Burrator Dam at the Sheepstor side. Showing a workman in the foreground holding a shovel standing beside a trench with two loaded wheelbarrows. In the centre of the image there is a steam crane hoisting a large bucket over the trench and to the right of this a man in a suit (probably the engineer, Mr Sandeman) with another workman. In the background, there is a field with cows and to the left is a large house. (, )
Overall Collection Description: Collection of up to 1000 images, the majority from glass plate negatives, including approximately 200 non-topographic/natural history copy image negatives. Taken by Richard Rugg Monk (born, 1845. Died, 1924) a local watchmaker, Plymouth Councillor and keen amateur photographer. He was the first secretary of the Plymouth Photographic Club and much of his photographic collection was donated to the City Museum. (, )
