Description
Description: Woven bag made of flax or plant fibre, reputedly a scorcerer's, from the Maive District of New Guinea, Melanesia. (, )
Researcher Description: Possibly from the sorcerer described in 'Papuan Pictures'. From the Eastern Gulf (Maive or Maiva?). Contained pieces of cloth, stone, coral, quartz and bone. The stones are river stones. Some of the quartz pieces have decorative binding, purpose unkown. The cloth is trade cloth. The stones were 'thrown inside' a person and the sorcerer used magic to detect them and pull them out. (Joshua Bell, UE, 2007)
